Watch Spike Lee’s ‘Mo’ Better Blues’ Under The Stars On Governors Island
One of New York City’s best summer perks is outdoor movies in iconic locations, and Governors Island is showing a NYC classic for free amid the great, safe outdoors.
On Friday, August 6, Spike Lee’s first collaboration with Denzel Washington, “Mo’ Better Blues,” is being shown on the 7.5-acre historically landmarked Parade Ground, thanks to a partnership between the Trust for Governors Island and Film at Lincoln Center. It’s a great opportunity to get out of that stuffy apartment and watch a movie under the stars. Plus summer’s more than halfway over — and the outdoor movie opportunities are dwindling!
Reservations are not necessary for a spot on the lawn, but you’ll definitely want to book a reservation for the evening ferry to get to Governors Island. Service operates from 10 South Street’s Battery Maritime Building at 5:20 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:40 p.m., 7:20 p.m. and 8 p.m. Ferries will return to Manhattan from Soissons Landing at 9 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. No need to choose a return time for the ferry; just be sure to bring a mask for the ride.
